Frequent Questions - Computer Labs

How do I log onto the computers? The username and password for the computers are the same as your J&W email account. Example: If your email address is abc123@jwu.edu, then your username is abc123 and your password is your email password.

I never logged into my email account or I forgot my password. What should I do? You can get your email address at uconnect.jwu.edu. If you cannot find your account information, you can or visit a computer lab for your username and password.

You can reset a forgotten password in one of two ways. The preferred method is to do it online by visiting email.jwu.edu and clicking on the "Password Reset Manager" link. This method requires that you have previously set up a Q&A Profile through the Password Reset Manager. This option is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you need your password reset you must visit a computer lab.

Can a lab staff member log me onto a computer? No. We are prohibited from logging other people onto the computers. If you do not have your account information, you can ask the lab staff for assistance.

What do I do if the lab computer is not accepting my J&W email account username and password?

  1. Attempt to retry typing your username and password.
  2. Make sure "Num Lock" is on and "Caps Lock" is off.
  3. Make sure the domain chosen is jwu.
  4. If you are still unable to log on ask the lab staff for assistance.

When I print something in the lab, where do I pick up my print out? Printouts can be picked up at the lab printer. In Providence, look for your initials on the cover sheet. At the other campuses, look for the item printed.

I waited a long time and still don't see my print out. Where is it?

I printed a large number of pages but only received a few. Where are the rest? Print jobs should be submitted in increments of 10 pages at a time. The lab staff reserves the right to cancel print jobs which exceed 10 pages.

How should PowerPoint presentations be printed? PowerPoint slides must be printed in a handout format. If you need assistance choosing this option, please contact a lab staff member. The lab staff reserves the right to cancel full slide format print jobs.

How do I print something in color? Providence: Ask someone at the front desk for a color print. We sell coupons for 4 prints for $1. You can use the coupons one at a time if you wish, but we sell them four to a sheet.
Charlotte and Denver: Color printing can be done through the print and mail center.

How do I print .pdf documents?

  1. Locate the file.
  2. Right click on the file name and select "Save Target As".
  3. Select the desktop and then click "Save".
  4. Minimize to the desktop and then double click on the file name.
  5. Once the document is open, select "Print" from the File menu.

How do I save my work? The best method is to carry a USB flash drive device. You can purchase one at any local computer store or the University bookstore.

How do I save a file, including PowerPoint presentations?

  1. Locate the file.
  2. Right click on the file name and select "Save Target As".
  3. Select the desktop and then click "Save".
  4. Minimize to the desktop and then double click on the file name to open it.

What do I do if my storage device isn't working? If your storage device appears to be broken, the best solution is to email yourself your file.

What do I do If I can't locate my saved work on my storage device? Make sure you wait for the computer to completely save the file on your storage device before removing it. Double-check to ensure that you didn't save it under My Documents.

The computer seems frozen or broken. What should I do? Please notify a lab staff member so we may assist you in correcting the problem.

How do I get to uconnect from the lab computers?

  1. Log onto the computer using your email account user name and password.
  2. Open Internet Explorer.
  3. Type uconnect.jwu.edu into the address bar and hit "enter."

I left something in the computer lab last night. Have you seen it? Check with a lab staff member and be sure to describe the item in detail.
